On Thursday 28th November, INVERT partners OSDIFE and Carabinieri Command for Labour Protection organised a training session which included a series of presentations on labour exploitation, the Italian and European legal framework, and law enforcement investigative techniques.

More than 120 professionals, including inspectors from the Italian National Labour Inspectorate and from the Carabinieri Command for Labour Protection participated in the event. This diverse audience reflected the strong interest in and commitment to addressing labour exploitation through coordinated national and international efforts.

The session began with an introduction to the INVERT project, the partners involved, and the broader context of the work, delivered by Pietro Costanzo, Advisor at the Osservatorio sulla Sicurezza e Difesa CBRNe (OSDIFE).

Then, Dr. Stefano D’Arma, Deputy Prosecutor at the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Rome, discussed the Italian legal framework addressing labour exploitation. The detailed analysis provided insights into how Italian legislation is used to tackle exploitative practices and protect victims. This was followed by a Q&A session, allowing participants to engage directly with the speaker, clarify doubts, and discuss specific aspects of the legal framework.

Last, Captain Tommaso Errico, Head of the 1st Section of the Operational Department of the Carabinieri Command for Labour Protection, delivered a presentation on investigative techniques for combating human trafficking and exploitation. This session provided participants with an understanding of how law enforcement tackles these issues from an operational perspective. Emphasis was placed on the importance of collaboration between institutions and the role of innovative investigative tools in the fight against labour exploitation. The session ended with an invitation for continued dialogue and cooperation among all stakeholders involved, also within the framework of the INVERT project.

The INVERT training session successfully brought together key stakeholders to discuss critical issues related to labour exploitation and human trafficking. The combination of legal insights, practical investigative techniques, and interactive discussion provided a comprehensive overview of the challenges and strategies involved. The event underscored the need for continued collaboration and the use of innovative tools to combat these pressing issues effectively.
